AI-Powered Prayer & Bible App for iOS, Android & Web
A full native-to-Flutter rewrite of a Christian prayer app, pairing AI-generated, Scripture-fused prayers with a validated spiritual wellbeing tracker and a live community prayer wall.

01 / The Challenge
A full rewrite, without losing a single prayer
The app had shipped in 2023 and carried real users and years of prayer history on an older codebase. It needed to become a modern, null-safe Flutter app, stay strictly Bible-and-prayer in its content, and add a genuinely new way to track spiritual growth, without breaking what people already relied on.
The existing app was on an older, pre-null-safety codebase and needed a full rewrite onto modern Flutter without losing existing users or their prayer history
Generic guided-meditation apps blend traditions together; this app had to stay strictly Scripture-and-prayer, with every word either the user's own or drawn directly from the Bible
Traditional prayer chains break down within days, a request goes stale the moment someone forwards a text, so the community feature needed every intercessor praying the current story, not yesterday's
No existing prayer app paired validated wellbeing scales with day-to-day prayer habits in one connected dashboard
02 / Here is What We Did
A modern Flutter app, built on the same spiritual spine
We rebuilt the app as a single Flutter codebase for iOS, Android and web, wired to Firebase and OpenAI through Cloud Functions, then layered in the two modules that make it more than a prayer generator: a validated wellbeing tracker and a community prayer chain that stays current.
Every module plugs into the same Scripture spine, so a feature added later never has to fight the architecture that came before it.
Migration Mapping
Audited the prior codebase and Firestore schema before starting the null-safe Flutter rewrite, so existing accounts and prayer history carried over cleanly.
Core Prayer Engine
Rebuilt the AI prayer generation pipeline end to end, Cloud Functions calling OpenAI, backed by Provider-based state and Cloud Firestore.
My Journey & Community
Layered in the psychometric wellbeing tracker, the mood-based Pray from the Soul flow, and the Living Prayer Chain community module.
03 / Features
Everything a modern prayer practice needs
Four ways into Scripture: pray a topic from the curated Barker Chain-Reference library, pray straight through a Bible book, pray today's news mapped to Scripture, or start from a feeling in Pray from the Soul.
AI-generated prayers fuse the user's own words with curated Scripture chains, generated server-side by Firebase Cloud Functions calling OpenAI so no key ever ships in the client.
A Discovery Library of 385+ curated experiences; the codebase supports eight content types in total, including Personas, Resound and MYOB alongside the five headline formats.
My Journey wellbeing centre: four validated instruments, Stress (PSS-10), Anxiety (GAD-7), Fruit (WEMWBS-18) and Roots (SHALOM-36), rolled into a Christian Wellness Index and charted over time.
A community Living Prayer Chain, a public prayer wall plus open and closed prayer groups, where updating a request regenerates the Scripture-fused prayer for every intercessor already following it.
Voice Mode text-to-speech playback, Email/Google/Apple sign-in with multi-factor auth, and tiered RevenueCat subscriptions, hardened with Firebase App Check and reCAPTCHA v3.
04 / Technologies
Built as a single Flutter codebase for iOS, Android and web
05 / Results & Impact
A production-scale content library, shipped on modern Flutter
“This app has enriched me and my prayer life exponentially. You succinctly state what is on your heart and it provides an appropriate Bible verse on that topic and AI creates a lovely prayer incorporating heart-felt Bible truth.”
