01The challenge
A conference business running on paper badges
Virtue Insight has produced conferences since 2009. The delegate experience still depended on a printed agenda and whoever you met at the coffee break.
Programmes go stale
Agendas, speakers and sponsors change up to the day, so print is out of date before the first session.
Networking without phone numbers
Delegates wanted to reach the right person without exchanging personal contacts.
Phones and laptops
The same product had to feel native on mobile and be equally usable at desktop width.
Strangers messaging strangers
Professional event messaging needs real moderation controls, not just a send button.
Same day changes
Sessions move and speakers get swapped, so updates had to reach delegates instantly.
02What we built
One codebase, a real time backend, permissions shaped by the event
We delivered the Flutter client, the REST and WebSocket API behind it, and the pipeline that ships the web build.
Events and agenda core
The event directory, day by day agenda with expandable sessions, speakers, tiered sponsors and a mapped venue.
Real time messaging
Conversation history, live delivery and read receipts, with message tokens so optimistic sends reconcile.
Three platforms, one deploy
A responsive shell across three breakpoints, light and dark themes, and web deploys on every merge.
Chat permission is derived from event registration on the server, so who you can message is a property of the conference you are attending.

Every session, every attendee, and a route from a profile into a conversation.
Delegate home
A delegate opens on today's agenda, taps a speaker, and is one step from messaging them. The same widget tree renders it on a phone, a tablet and a laptop.

Day by day agenda, speakers by session role, sponsors by tier, reasons to attend, and a mapped venue.
02Attendee directory
Name, job title, company and photo per event, with a one tap route into a conversation.
03Real time one to one chat
Conversation history, live delivery, read receipts, and image sharing with a full screen viewer.
04Server side chat gating
Only delegates registered for an event can open a conversation, with block and report in every thread.
05Deep linked push
Tapping an alert opens the exact chat, and notifications are suppressed while that thread is on screen.
06One responsive shell
The same code on phone, tablet and web, with themes, shimmer states and pre sign in browsing.
